Matricast Tuffloor Case History
A large automotive facility in the
Midwestern United States began a conversion from iron-casting to aluminum-casting. This offered a prime opportunity to demonstrate
the benefits of TUFFLOOR. A total of 1.5
million pounds of TUFFLOOR was supplied to install a 4-inch thick layer over the concrete
foundation in the aluminum-casting areas.
TUFFLOOR was supplied in 3,000 pound
bulk bags to expedite installation. The
material was mixed in cement trucks, with 18,000 pounds of material being mixed at once.
TUFFLOOR was vibrated into place using a vibrating
screed, and a power trowel was used to apply the final surface finish. The installation went quickly using two cement
trucks and a water tanker truck. The concrete
foundation was recessed by 4-inches where the
TUFFLOOR was to be installed. The
TUFFLOOR and the concrete were blended so it
was not possible to see where the regular concrete stopped and the
TUFFLOOR began.
This installation introduced
TUFFLOOR to a
construction company previously unfamiliar with the product. They were initially concerned that
TUFFLOOR would
be difficult to work with because it was a refractory product. As the installation progressed they found it easy
to use, and the installation went very smoothly.
